Alex Albon will hold his 100th anniversary race in Formula 1 this weekend, but does not consider it a special achievement.
Alex Albon: “It’s difficult for me to highlight highlights from my career, although I can remember both the very first race and the first podium – it’s always nice to finish in the top three. But if the season consists of such a large number of stages, to reach the milestone of a hundred races it is enough to spend only four and a half seasons in Formula 1.
Time flies very quickly and I was recently told that I should now be ahead of Sir Jackie Stewart in terms of number of races, which gives me a rather strange feeling (the legendary Scot has 99 Grand Prix to his name).
Now Williams is on the rise and although we are not yet completely satisfied with the car, we have managed to improve after a whole series of technical innovations were introduced. And we know that as we understand their work and better understand the behavior of the modernized FW46, the speed will increase.
We’ve spent the last few weeks doing a detailed analysis of the information collected to understand what needs to be done to go faster and earn more points. But overall, the team managed to bring about positive changes, and this trend continues. I don’t see any reason that will stop us from performing well in the coming races, especially this weekend.”
Albon was also asked if he was surprised by how quickly Franco Colapinto, his new teammate, was able to adapt to the Williams car and to Formula 1 in general?
“I wouldn’t say I’m surprised, but I’m really impressed with Franco,” Alex replied. “He has already shown good pace in testing at Silverstone this year and he seems quite comfortable in his job, there is none. When he experiences a feeling of overexertion, he behaves very calmly. In a new situation, where you are put behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car in the middle of the season, this is the most correct thing. So I am not surprised, but just pleasantly impressed by his work.”
