During qualifying for the sprint in Austin, the Sauber drivers concluded the protocol as usual…
Valtteri Bottas (19th): “Qualifying proved difficult – the wind got stronger and the car lost stability. The end result is the same as in the last stages, but the feeling of the car has become better and thanks to the new products prepared we have been able to close the gap.
We need to achieve more stability, after the sprint we will refine the settings to achieve more in the main qualifying and the race.”
Guanyu Zhou (20th): “Difficult day. In the first practice I lost time on track due to technical problems, completing only a few laps, and as the weekend progresses with the sprint on Saturday, such losses are difficult to compensate.
My best lap in qualifying for the sprint was removed, on that attempt I was only five hundredths behind Valtteri, but that still wouldn’t have been enough to leave last place.
It’s a shame to feel like you’ve gotten the most out of the car and showed a result close to your teammate, but we’re both at the end of the pack and understand that there’s still a lot of work to be done shop is. I hope that by solving these problems we will have a better qualifying and race.”
