With every failed performance, the criticism of Sergio Perez becomes louder. Compared to other strong teams that consistently earn points with two cars, Red Bull continues to slip further and in Mexico City the team fell to third place in the Constructors’ Championship, although it recently held a confident first place.
Sergio Perez’s alarming decline has left him in an extremely vulnerable position. Red Bull team boss Christian Horner does not rule out a possible dismissal of the driver before the end of the year.
Christian Horner: “Sergio had a terrible weekend in Mexico City, nothing worked for him.
He knows that Formula 1 is a results-oriented business, and if you don’t achieve these results you will inevitably cause a wave of criticism.
It is extremely important for us to earn points with two cars, that is the essence of Formula 1. There has always been pressure and criticism, but we as a team are working hard to help Sergio. We are doing everything we can to support him and will continue to do so in Brazil, but there comes a time when we can no longer do anything definitive.
Will Sergio finish the season? As I just said, results will always be closely monitored. There comes a time when you have to make a difficult decision. We are currently third in the Constructors’ Championship and are determined to get back to winning ways, but it won’t be easy in the next four races.”
