Oliver Berman will drive Kevin Magnussen’s car during practice on Friday, the Haas F1 team said.
“Kevin Magnussen will not participate in track work in Sao Paulo on Friday due to illness. He will be replaced by official Haas F1 reserve driver Oliver Berman. The team wishes Kevin a speedy recovery and will provide further information as it becomes available,” Haas wrote on social media.
Berman will therefore not only take part in today’s training, but also in qualifying for the sprint, and although the team does not mention this, it is logical to assume that he will be at the start of the short race from Saturday.
The Brazilian stage will be the third race weekend in which Oliver will drive the car of the American team – before that he trained at Silverstone and replaced the same Magnussen in Baku, when the Dane, after accumulating twelve penalty points, had to miss the race. Grand Prix of Azerbaijan.
Berman made a highly successful debut in Formula 1 last spring when he replaced the retired Carlos Sainz at Ferrari in Saudi Arabia and earned points on his first attempt, finishing seventh on the tricky city circuit in Jeddah.
