Last year’s Formula 3 champion, McLaren youth program participant Gabriel Bortoleto, is now Formula 2 leader and can win a second title in a row.
The obvious next step is Formula 1, but there are no vacancies at McLaren. The head of the British team, Andrea Stella, said in Brazil that they would not stop Bortoleto from competing in Formula 1 or other series if such an opportunity arose.
Andrea Stella: “I would like to take this opportunity to once again emphasize how well Gabriel is doing in the youth series, winning the Formula 3 title and leading Formula 2 in his first season.
As a result, what I consider very normal and natural happens: the Formula 1 teams try to get their hands on it. McLaren will not interfere with its performance in Formula 1. Negotiations on this will continue, let’s see what the outcome will be.”
