Oliver Berman was given the unexpected opportunity this weekend to spend his second full race weekend behind the wheel of a Haas F1 car, as he replaces the unwell Kevin Magnussen. And although his affairs are more or less normal, the young Briton at least does not make any major mistakes, although he did not manage to take any points at the end of the sprint.
But the rain qualifying could be a new challenge for him.
Oliver Berman: “I’m a little angry about the weather, but so far the rain is still too heavy and at the same time it’s gradually starting to get dark. But let’s see how everything turns out.
But even if qualifying is postponed to Sunday morning, it will be a good thing, because today I’m going to bed earlier! (laughs) But of course I would like qualifying to take place, although it seems a bit risky for now.
But I know the track staff is doing everything they can to disperse the water so we can work safely on the track. Once we go, there won’t be any special problems anymore. The most important thing is to ensure that there is not too much water on the asphalt.
But the fact is that I have almost never driven a Formula 1 car in such conditions. I only spent one day at the Pirelli tire tests, when we tested rain tires together with Ferrari. Of course the behavior of the car changes a lot, because it slides a lot more, although I think it would be interesting to drive on this track in the rain.
I watched the video of the 2016 Brazilian Grand Prix when Max Verstappen famously overtook everyone, and it was cool! In general, I like flying in such conditions!..”
