Charles Leclerc finished fifth in Brazil after a quick pit stop – and admitted two mistakes stopped him from achieving more…
Charles Leclerc: “When we decided the settings together with the team, I chose the option I considered most suitable, and I was wrong: there was simply no speed, neither in qualifying nor in the race. On a wet track we proved to be uncompetitive and we can only be satisfied with the fact that we were able to keep losses to a minimum.
The second mistake was an early pit stop, but I must say that in such a race it is difficult to avoid mistakes in strategy, because many factors have to be taken into account.
Only the top three made no mistakes, but we were not one of them. I asked for a pit stop when I wanted to stand on a free track. I needed free space and asked the team to find it. Unfortunately, getting in and out of the pit lane in the rain took longer than we thought, and I ended up back in traffic with Berman and Lewis.
The only thing that gives some comfort is that at the end of the weekend I was ahead of both McLaren cars, which initially worked out in their favor.”
