The swing left Fernando Alonso with back pain during the Interlagos race, but he was keen to finish and after the race he appealed to the FIA to investigate some aspects of last weekend…
Fernando Alonso: “In the second half of the race the car swayed particularly strongly, then there were problems with the brakes – it felt like I was using the handbrake all the time. This made the race very difficult and resulted in no points. I think under different circumstances I would have retired, but the mechanics did a fantastic job preparing the car for the start, I wanted to finish ahead of them.
Before the stage I was sick, the preparation for the race included many checks and tests, doctors and physiotherapists came with me to Brazil. We did everything we could, but I felt uncomfortable in the car. However, there are people who are now worse off than me. I saw these terrible pictures from Valencia, where people died, where many had to fight for their lives.
This was an atypical Grand Prix from which the FIA must draw conclusions. The break between qualifying and the race was very short, meaning some drivers, such as Alex Albon, did not have time to restore the car. Maybe we should set a minimum time between the end of qualifying and the race so that everyone can start, because fans come to watch a race with 20 riders.”
