Ferrari drivers Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc finished fourth and fifth in the Qatar sprint. During the race, Charles battled with his future teammate Lewis Hamilton, and after some contact with his wheels, he overtook the Mercedes driver.
Carlos Sainz (4th): “Difficult sprint, especially the first lap. I started on the dirt side of the track, which meant the Medium tires had minimal grip on the asphalt. During the sprint the pace was good, but still not high enough to put pressure on George Russell, who attacked Oscar Piastri. It feels like they are five-hundredths per lap faster than us.”
Charles Leclerc (5th): “McLaren is very strong on this track, but we expected that when we were preparing for the weekend. The pace on the long distances is quite good, but the problem is the qualifying pace, and it is very difficult to overtake on this track. It will be difficult to do anything in the race if we start fifth or sixth.
The upcoming qualification will be fundamental. We know we have to improve, but we’ll see if we can do that.
Fighting Lewis? We really fought to the limit and I was able to catch up well. But his wheels touched each other slightly. It was fun! “
