Mercedes chief race engineer Andrew Shovlin hopes the problems with the build-up of the car on the straights, making it necessary to use sub-optimal car settings, will partly be solved by the team already in Miami.
Andrew Shovlin: “We know what the difficulties are. We know what to do to achieve the desired result. The whole team is now focused on solving an interesting technical challenge that lies ahead.
Now, due to accumulation, we cannot use the settings for which we developed this machine. We have to work with greater ground clearance, which significantly reduces efficiency.
We are working to find an aerodynamic solution that can solve this problem. We remain realistic and understand that it will most likely take several steps, but we are seeing encouraging signs. We will be adding new parts to the car soon, possibly in Miami, and we hope to see progress on this.”
