Markus Erickson races in Sweden in GT race

Back home in Sweden, Markus Erikson’s career has been followed for a long time – at least for the last 15 years, since he started playing at international level and won titles.

Admittedly, in Formula 1, he was not very lucky: in five seasons with Sauber, he earned just 18 points. But in 2019 Markus moved to IndyCar, gradually established himself in the overseas series, began to climb the podium, take victories and this season he won the legendary Indy 500 race.

And now she will guest star in the final of the Scandinavian Porsche Carrera Cup – the race, which is also the final of the Swedish championship, will take place on October 1 at the Mantorp Park circuit.

It is worth highlighting two interesting points: Markus will be performing in his home country for the first time since karting, ie since 2006, and also for the first time he will have to compete with his younger brother Hampus, who drives GT.

Markus Erikson: “2022 was the most successful year of my career. It will be great to end this incredible season as I won the Indy 500 on home soil in front of the Swedish fans as a guest driver in the final of the Swedish Championship. This is a great opportunity to thank them for the warm support I always feel.

Of course I hope to show good speed, especially if I get the chance to compete with my younger brother Hampus. This will be my first race in a GT3 car, so there will be a lot to learn. This car has less downforce, it’s heavier, but I’m sure it will be interesting!

Hampus Erikson is one of the top drivers in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia and is considered one of the contenders for the title. All the championship participants will compete in the same Porsche 911 GT3 Cup sports car and Marcus will have to drive the Porsche Experience Racing team’s car.
