On the eve of the Italian Grand Prix, Haas driver Kevin Magnussen revealed what it means to him to compete at the legendary Monza circuit.
Q: Will the team somehow adjust the approach to work over the weekend at Monza, given the high-speed nature of the track?
Kevin Magnussen: We’re not doing things differently this weekend. There are great races in Monza, the track is one of my favorites. Thanks to the atmosphere on the track and the history of the circuit, the performances in Monza are special. In addition, overtaking is possible on this track, there are opportunities for slipstreams – because of this, unique races are held in Monza.
Q: How would you compare historic tracks like Spa, Zandvoort and Monza to new ones?
Kevin Magnussen: I don’t see anything wrong with having both old and new tracks on the calendar, but I still prefer the historical tracks because they are different. Modern tracks are flat, wide, smooth, but when you come to Zandvoort, Mugello, Monza or Suzuka, you immediately see the difference – these tracks are more exciting. Only in those years everything was different, and the tracks that have existed since then have character.
Q: How are you spending the two weeks before the race in Singapore?
Kevin Magnussen: I will train and try to make the most of this break. During these three weeks we travel a lot, leaving little time for classes at the gym, so I’m going to train and spend time with my family.
