On the eve of the circuit’s 100th anniversary in Monza, Stefano Domenicali said it must be reconstructed in time, otherwise a place on the championship calendar is not guaranteed. Also, in an interview with the Italian press, the chief executive and president of Formula 1 touched on a number of other important topics, including the situation at Ferrari.
“We must honor all the agreements made between us and the national motoring club ACI to make the track more comfortable for the public and for the teams,” Gazzetta dello Sport was quoted as saying by Domenicali. – I understand that due to the political crisis in the country there may be delays as we are talking about financial resources, so we have shown for our part that we are ready to compromise.
We have already made concessions that we would not accept anywhere else to keep the Italian Grand Prix on the Formula 1 calendar, but for that to happen everything has to run smoothly.
I would like to thank Angelo Sticchi Damiani, President of ACI, who makes every effort to resolve all issues. But all parties should strive for this, there should be a clear understanding of the goals, high-level guarantees should be confirmed. But for the Monza circuit to celebrate other anniversaries in the future, Italy needs to develop a systematic approach.
All planned refurbishment works for the coming months should be completed, starting with the extension of underpasses and access roads, and the grandstands should be made more comfortable so that the circuit meets international standards in all respects.
About the 2022 championship, Domenicali said: “All tickets for all races up to and including Abu Dhabi have already been sold. The difference in points between the riders who take first and second place in the individual classification is large, so for the backlog it is especially important to ensure reliable operation of the equipment and not to make mistakes.
But most importantly, the rivalry in the championship is generally more intense than in the past, the duels on the tracks are very interesting and all this promises that the battle will continue until the end of the season.
The Ferrari team is increasingly coming under fire for all sorts of mistakes that occur during the races, but Domenicali, who in the past led the Scudireia himself, said: “It’s easy to criticize from the outside, but I think now the Ferrari drivers should support Mattia Binotto I cannot afford to give advice to company president John Elkann and Binotto, it is up to them to take the necessary steps to ensure the team gets the results it deserves. “
As preliminary agreements have been made between Red Bull and Alpine F1 that Colton Hert could replace Pierre Gasly in AlphaTauri if the Frenchman moves to Renault’s works team, Domenicali has been asked to comment on this as well.
He emphasized the importance of an American driver in the championship: “It can play an important role in raising awareness of Formula 1 in the US, but in our sport there is a legal system to judge a driver’s level , for which there is a super license. This is the responsibility of the FIA, and if Colton has enough points to enable him to compete in F1, we will welcome him with open arms, but he must earn this right.
