Aston Martin divided Friday’s program into three racers – in the morning Nick de Vries got behind the wheel of Sebastian Vettel’s car, focused on working with aerodynamics…
Sebastian Vettel (17th): “Today I shared a car with Nick de Vries – he did a great job giving the team useful feedback. It was an interesting experience to see him at work and listen to what he says on the radio .
When I got behind the wheel in the afternoon, the session turned out not to be the easiest. It is in Monza that you feel how stiff the suspension of new generation cars is, especially when cornering. And you feel the new asphalt in chicanes very differently than in previous years.
We still have to work in the evening, but we know what to add tomorrow.”
Lance Walk (18th): “All day we were looking for the right settings for a track with low downforce. We managed to do a lot, we came a long way – I hope this will help us improve before we qualify.
Many riders will lose places on the grid due to penalties, which can change the balance of power. It seems that in 2022 cars the slipstream will not be as efficient as it used to be, which could seriously change the dynamics of qualifying.”
Nuc de Vries (19th in the first session): “Running the AMR22 at Monza is a great honor for me. It’s a very different track from the one I’ve driven in 2022 cars, which is very rewarding for me. The comparison with my other training sessions this year was complicated by the fact that it uses the settings for minimum downforce.
In the first half of the session we collected data on the work of aerodynamics and then I was able to work on Soft. It was important to help the team prepare for the weekend and I think the work done has allowed us to make progress.”
