On Saturday morning, Williams announced that Alex Albon would not be able to drive until the end of the weekend due to appendicitis – he was replaced by reserve driver Nick de Vries, who was making his Grand Prix debut.
At Williams, Nick was considered one of the candidates for next season – and had the chance to work with him during the actual weekend. Nick left in the 25th minute as the mechanics adjusted the seat and pedals for him.
Mick Schumacher lost almost the entire session. When starting the power station, there were problems with the clutch, which had to be replaced, so that the German only left in the last ten minutes.
The session went smoothly. Bottas had to lock the tires to avoid colliding with Sainz, who braked unexpectedly in the first corner – the stewards are investigating this incident. De Vries got stuck in the gravel box in the first Lesmo and continued.
Max Verstappen took the lead with a lap time of 1:21.252. Charles Leclerc was dissatisfied with the car’s cornering behavior and lost more than three tenths, setting second fastest time.
