Fernando Alonso: The team deserved a short break

At the Italian Grand Prix, Alpine’s scoring streak of 11 races in a row in which the team earned points was interrupted – Esteban Ocon finished 11th and Fernando Alonso retired due to a drop in coolant pressure. In the Constructors’ Championship, Alpine’s lead over McLaren in the battle for fourth place was reduced to 18 points.

Esteban Ocon (11th): “A difficult race and I am disappointed to have finished in one place out of the top ten. The car drove well and showed a good pace, but due to the crowds this could not be realized.

The team will regroup and try to make the most of all the remaining races, starting from Singapore. I’m looking forward to a short break after the built series to prepare for the away games where we will aim for two cars to score the points we need to fight for fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship.”

Fernando Alonso (retirement): “A difficult race where it was difficult for us to stay behind rivals’ cars on the straights. Then I had to retire due to a pressure drop in the cooling system – the cause has yet to be determined. We were fighting in the top ten and I was hoping to finish in the points, but today I didn’t.

After three long weeks, the team worked hard and deserved a short break. The good news is that we are still ahead of McLaren in fourth place. We are going to Singapore with the aim of finishing in the top 10 again.”

Otmar Safnauer, Team Principal: “We are disappointed that we did not score any points in today’s Italian Grand Prix. Esteban didn’t have enough – he finished 11th and Fernando retired and held a high position. Apparently the coolant pressure on his car has dropped. We will conduct an investigation to determine the cause and prevent this from happening again in the future.

In the second stint, Esteban was in a high position, gaining a second per lap from rivals up front and battling for points in the closing laps. It’s a shame the race hasn’t resumed – I’m sure we’ll find ways to increase the entertainment in such scenarios.

The team evaluates positively the result of a series of built stages – we did our best and earned 26 points, which is very important in the championship. We will come back stronger in Singapore at the end of the month with more car upgrades ready.”
