Double Olympic champion Boris Maireov in a conversation with a correspondent, he said that changes in the coaching staff “Spartacus” caused by the team’s lackluster performance this season.
On Thursday, Spartak sacked head coach Boris Mironov and today announced that the Red-Whites will be managed by Igor Grishin, who previously worked as a head coach at Spartak’s agricultural club Khimik near Moscow.
“I think under Mironov the team didn’t have a style of play,” Mayorov said. – Personally, I did not understand at all – what kind of hockey does Spartak play? There are opinions that he acted on defense. But I can’t agree with that – the defense was also full of holes! And there is nobody to play in attack, on the whole, except for two or three attackers. The worst thing is that in the last year and a half I haven’t seen any type of team building at Spartak. This was particularly evident in the context of more systemic rivals. There were separate matches when the team was watching, but that was a rare occurrence. Therefore, the change of coach in this situation is natural.
– Agree that Spartak’s attack was greatly weakened by the transfer of Alexander Nikishin to SKA? This is especially true of the game in the majority.
We are not a warrior on the ground. Nine people have been given for Nikishin, but so far this exchange has not been justified. Among the players that Spartak received for Nikishin, no one has really fired yet. Perhaps it would be better to leave Alexandre. Let him be a lonely hero, but around him you can create a special brigade for the majority, create a game for the five. In general, if the team is betting on something serious, one cannot be guided only by material considerations. Well, we sold the player, we got a lot of money. And what’s the point if Spartak suffered from this deal as a result? Good players must be kept.
– What do you think of the new “Spartak” coach Igor Grishin?
– I can’t say anything about him, he’s a little-known person in our hockey. But now Spartak’s decisions should come as no surprise. Once management has made such a decision, nothing can be done. To date, there are no well-known coaches on the market, except for Dmitry Kvartalnov.
– Could Kvartalnov, in your opinion, lead Spartak?
– Well why not? A real candidate.
Spartak will play the next game on Monday, visiting Dynamo Moscow. During the previous meeting, the Red-Whites beat CSKA (2-1). They are currently eighth in the Western Conference table.
