CSKA head coach Sergei Fedorov told how his team defeated Spartak (7:1) in the Fonbet KHL Championship game.
The army team scored 15 goals in the last two matches – the victory over Spartak was preceded by a meeting with Torpedo (8-3).
“We started to play properly,” Fedorov quotes “”. – We played competently, without losses in the middle zone, we did not fall, we quickly went on the attack. Considered this game part of the playoffs. Only forward.
Were there any moments you didn’t like?
– Certainly. Sometimes in the middle zone we tried to play across, not forward. Because of this, they lost the puck and Spartak was able to score. If we had missed out at the start of the game, the match would have turned out quite differently. We don’t mind if the guys play for a partner, but do it without a loss. But basically we left the defensive zone for a pass. This first military pass has always been a powerful weapon for CSKA. And now we have fixed it. They played creatively.
– In football, the derby between CSKA and Spartak is one of the key events. What does a hockey derby between Moscow clubs represent for you?
– The tradition has continued since Soviet times, when all Moscow teams were at the level. In such matches, players from both sides always give their all. Derby is always brilliant and exciting hockey. Today was a very important match for me, especially before the playoffs.
CSKA is second in the KHL Western Conference standings with 92 points.
