The Rangers are an unfortunate team. Maybe it’s time for a change?” — Krikunov

Former head coach of the national teams of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan Vladimir Krikunov believes that the NHL club “New York Rangers” fatally unlucky in the Stanley Cup.

The last time Rangers won the trophy was in 1994. This season, the team lost to Tampa in the semi-finals – 2-4.

– Why did Rangers, after winning the first two games of the series, then suffer defeats in four games in a row?

Because it’s the playoffs. And the Rangers, in my opinion, are kind of an unfortunate team in that regard. It’s the club with the biggest budget, with a very solid team that they put together year after year, but they can’t do anything in the Stanley Cup. The last time they won it was in 1994, 28 years ago! Yes, and there our guys won – Kovalev, Zubov, Nemchinov, Karpovtsev. And recently they haven’t been close to the final. Maybe Rangers need to drastically change something? For example, Madison Square Garden. Because everything seems to be fine – the composition, the conditions, but there are no big wins.

– Does Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin deserve the Vezina Trophy title despite losing in the semi-finals?

– To clearly answer this question, it was necessary to follow the entire season not only for Shesterkin, but for all NHL goaltenders more closely. So let foreign experts determine that. But the fact that Igor coached the team in the playoffs is a fact. He had a very good season.
