Alexander Krylov resigned as chairman of the boardAvant-garde ”, according to the website of the Omsk hockey club.
Krylov has been in the job since 2018. During the official’s period, the Hawks won the Gagarin Cup (2021) and also reached the KHL playoff final (2019). Additionally, in 2022, Avangard resumed hosting home matches in Omsk, as construction of the team’s new arena was completed. Four previous seasons, Avangard played at Balashikha Stadium near Moscow.
– Exactly five years ago, I accepted the offer of Alexander Valeryevich Dyukov to become chairman of the board of directors of Avangard. Five years is a good time to look back and see what has been done. The events of those five years could easily become the basis for a cool blockbuster. We managed to overcome so many difficulties together and to be part of a great story. Anyone else in our place would have already given up, anyone – but not us, because we are “the Vanguard”.
Vanguard is in good hands. In the hands of my team, which for 5 years, together with you, has made Avangard the strongest brand not only in Russian hockey, but also one of the strongest in all our sports. A team that is not afraid of the toughest obstacles. We managed to erase all stereotypes of what hockey club marketing should be and become an example to many, Avangard is trending today. When else will Jose Mourinho come to hockey or talk about Omsk in Dubai?
Today is the day when the club should be in the hands of a person who has all the necessary sports skills, who lives for hockey and is ready to take responsibility for his work – and that is Kuryanov. From now on, he will lead Avangard behind him, as he has already done successfully on the ice. I need to concentrate on my business projects, which require my 100% participation. I can’t give the club as much attention as I should. Therefore, deceiving me, my colleagues and you, dear fans, would be a betrayal on my part, and I do not tolerate traitors. But, as I said above, I leave Avangard in good hands. Hawk in the heart forever! Krylov said in a statement.
Kuryanov was named chief executive of Avangard in late April.
Last season, the KHL Avangard playoffs reached the Eastern Conference Finals, where they lost to Ak Bars Kazan 1-4.
