The club plans to temporarily move to another city
Former hockey player of Sokol, Berkut and other clubs, head of the Kharkiv branch of the Ukrainian Ice Hockey Federation Pavel Legachev told about fate Kharkiv Berserkers and their possible participation in the new UHL season.
“The club is now on pause. The legionnaires have gone home. We are in contact with the Kharkov guys. Of course, we would like to bring them together as soon as possible and start preparing for the next season. Igor Shamansky understands that in the current conditions we can rely primarily on young players.”
“The guys will get a unique opportunity to reveal their potential and try their hand at adult hockey. Now we are looking at 16-17-year-old hockey players and we are waiting for information that the Ukrainian championship will take place. In fact, we have a team for next season.”
“Let’s leave the name ‘Berserkers’ and temporarily move to another city. Until the agreement is signed, I will not disclose details. We have a verbal cooperation agreement with this city and the local youth school.”
Last season in the Ukrainian Hockey League was ended ahead of schedule due to a full-scale Russian invasion. Sokol, who was the leader in the championship at the time of the forced pause, was recognized as the champion of Ukraine.
The head of the sports department of the Ice Hockey Federation of Ukraine, Yuriy Kirichenko, said that the FHU had reached an oral agreement with six clubs that plan to play in the national championship under martial law in Ukraine.
