In the match against Dallas on Friday, Washington was defeated on penalties with a score of 4:5. Ovechkin recorded one assist in this game, reaching 1,500 points for his NHL career.
“It’s a really cool number. I always say that without my teammates, I couldn’t have achieved this goal. It’s pretty impressive,” Ovechkin said, according to the NHL’s official website.
In 19 seasons in the NHL, Ovechkin scored 827 goals and made 673 assists in 1,370 games. Becoming the first Russian player to reach the mark of 1,500 points in the NHL, the 38-year-old forward became the 16th hockey player to reach such numbers in the history of the league. He ranks second among active players, behind Pittsburgh forward Sidney Crosby (1,529).
Ovechkin, who has played for Washington since 2005, has scored five goals and made ten assists in 23 regular season games this season.
