Athletistic / Hockey. Journalists of the authoritative North American publication ESPN evaluated the work of the management of the Washington Capitals during the trade deadline for this NHL season.
“What is the updated Washington?” Is this a team with playoff aspirations? Are the residents of the capital focused on building the future? After the trade deadline, everything remained in limbo.
Washington is in playoff contention, but general manager Brian McLellan traded Kuznetsov, Mantha and Edmundson, weakening the team as a whole. On the other hand, the general manager did not give up such coveted hockey players as Nic Dowd and Max Pacioretty. Clearly, his goal was to keep Washington virtually intact.
Of course, Washington has an incredible number of draft picks (26 picks over the next three seasons). McLellan also signed Rasmus Sandin to a long-term deal, providing Washington with a key defender for years to come. It just seems to us that this matter is not over, as if the “capital” is in limbo,” the ESPN article says.
Washington lost to the Winnipeg Jets (0:3) last night in a regular season away game. The Capitals are in 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings with 69 points after 63 games. They are 3 points out of the playoff zone with a game in hand.
