Athletistic / Hockey. Traktor General Director Alexey Volkov commented on the appointment of Canadian Benoit Groux as the team’s head coach. The official admitted that he had conducted long-standing negotiations with the 56-year-old coach.

At Traktor, he replaced Alexey Zavarukhin. The contract with the Russian specialist was not renewed.

“The decision was very difficult. We are very grateful for the last playoffs – we saw everything and thank Alexey Borisovich for the work done. He was part of a united team that won the bronze medals.

Zavarukhin reacted emotionally to his dismissal from the post of head coach of Traktor

But after the end of the season, a lot of analysis work was done; we started working on the following season, in particular by thinking about options for strengthening the technical staff. In a short time we made a decision with the choice of Benoit Groux, which will hopefully lead us to higher achievements than we currently have.

There were no options: neither Gru, nor Zavarukhin. Benoit and I met in October, when Anwar resigned [Гатиятулина]. We were wondering if we needed an outside coach, my colleagues gave me some phone numbers, which I called. A [тренер] immediately refused, and Ben was not ready for the job then.

Once the season was over, I came back to it. At first he was skeptical about this option, but then gave a positive answer,” Volkov is quoted in the KHL press service.
