Hockey player Grigorenko explained why he joined SKA and not Lokomotiv

Attack Mikhail Grigorenko in an interview with he said that as soon as he had the opportunity to sign a contract with St. Petersburg SKA all other proposals took second place.

SKA officially announced the conclusion of a contract with Grigorenko on Friday. The deal with the 30-year-old striker is for four years, until the end of the 2027/28 season.

Grigorenko graduated from CSKA; in 2012, he was selected by Buffalo in the NHL draft with the 12th overall pick and played overseas for that team, as well as for Colorado.

In 2017, the striker returned to the capital’s Army team, with which he won the Gagarin Cup three times. Last season, Grigorenko played 64 matches for CSKA, including the playoffs, and scored 52 points (21+31).

– But they said you would move to Lokomotiv.

— It is clear that SKA was not the only club to contact us. Some negotiations also took place with other teams. Lokomotiv too. They had some sort of interest. Even if you yourself understand: today there is an offer, tomorrow there is none. The case did not result in a specific contract. And when the option with SKA appeared, all others faded into the background.

— How do you evaluate the series with Lokomotiv? Was there a chance of winning it?

— Yes, the score in the series is 4-1. But remember all the matches except the last one (3:6) – in the tenth minute it was 0:3 and everything was going wrong. But we lost the second, third and fourth matches by one goal. There was an extremely fierce fight; in the fifth game, the score should have been 2-2. Maybe everything would have happened differently. And so, I think the series was even and we played very well. But Lokomotiv eventually reached the final.

It’s clear that we lost in the series, and we can’t say that it was a success. Yes, disappointment, I still want to win the Gagarin Cup. Especially after two cups in a row. On the other hand, we have more time to prepare for next season. We reached the final with CSKA five seasons in a row. But it can’t be like this forever,” Grigorenko told .
