Former IIHF vice president Finn Kalervo Kummola called for the removal of the ranking of the world’s strongest teams after Russian team in hockey brought the Finnish team from second position.
The Russian national ice hockey team moved from third to second place in the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) rankings, the new version of which was published on the organization’s website. The Russian team replaced the Finnish team from second position.
— Over the last three years of participation in the world championships, from 2018 to 2021, the Russian team won only one bronze medal. I don’t know what’s going on there, but it all seems so ridiculous that it’s better to remove this classification altogether,” Kummola said, as quoted by Ilta-Sanomat.
