Retired striker Pavel Datsyuk is a unique player, Russian hockey players should admire him, the two-time Olympic champion told Alexander Kozhevnikov .
On Wednesday, Datsyuk, 45, announced his retirement. The last time he participated in matches was in 2021 with the Yekaterinburg Avtomobilist.
— A wonderful career, I achieved everything. Became Olympic champion, won the Gagarin Cup and the Stanley Cup. Everything that was there was conquered. A unique player. The country has someone to look up to. God grant that the guys have time to learn from him the ability to work, the vision of the construction site… We must learn from him. It’s always a shame when people like that end. But what can you do here? This is life,” Kozhevnikov told .
Datsyuk won the Stanley Cup twice with the Detroit Red Wings. As a member of the Russian national team, the striker won gold at the 2018 Olympics, the 2012 World Championships and bronze at the 2002 Games. In Russia, Datsyuk also defended the colors of the ‘Ak Bars Kazan, SKA Saint Petersburg, CSKA Moscow and Dynamo.
