Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin said he was happy when everyone in the arena before the “Match of the Year” sang the Russian anthem.
The match between the teams consisting of Russian NHL and KHL stars took place in Moscow at the CSKA Arena and ended with a score of 8:8.
— How do you like the match and its atmosphere?
– Everything is good. I just met a lot of guys from the KHL. Everything happened at the highest level.
— Is it important to organize such events in difficult times?
“It’s always a good thing to come together and do something good for kids and people who need help.” I think we put on a great vacation for the fans and for us. The guys and I would hang out after NHL games, and now we were hanging out in the locker room, talking and laughing. It was a great time to see each other again.
— What emotions did you feel when you walked on the ice and heard the Russian anthem?
— The Russian anthem is our anthem. You could hear everyone singing. It really warmed my soul.
—And you yourself have done an excellent job on behalf of the public.
– After all, it all came from the heart, and besides, I scored the first goal. I didn’t expect this to happen.
— They want to make this “Match of the Year” traditional. Where else can it go?
– Maybe in another city. There are different ideas. I will not tell you all this now. Let everything remain secret for now. But if you remember all the charity matches, each time they went better and better. And next year we will also make a very interesting program. I am sure that everyone will like it.
— Was it difficult to organize everything?
– You see, this is the cohesion of our team. Some, unfortunately, could not come for objective reasons, others simply did not have time. But Misha Sergachev and I discussed this idea for a long time, we planned it 2.5 months ago. In the end, everything went very well and beautifully. We had a full house and the audience appreciated it.
— We have collected 10 million rubles — for what purposes will they be used?
– Everything will go to charity – to funds, to help people.
— Why didn’t your throws go well in the accuracy competition?
— The ice was bad, even though I cleaned it. They made us walk around the area for 20 minutes, can you imagine what happened to the site? But I decided to try anyway.
– It was hot ?
– Not in this case. A lot of spectators came – thank you very much. “They melted the ice with their hearts,” a correspondent reports, based on Ovechkin’s words.
