Athletistic / Hockey. Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin spoke about the difference between the cheering culture in Russia and the United States.

“In America, the fan culture is different… They come to the stadiums with their families, buy lemonade, beer, everyone sits down, enjoys, applauds… But in Russia, you come, you have a fan sector… There (in the NHL. – Note Athletistic) there is none. There is one in football, of course, when Messi plays: that’s where they stand behind the goal, the drums, everything. There is nothing like that in hockey.

“In Russia, if you look closely, there are drums and scarves everywhere. In the United States – T-shirts, caps, beer, maybe even whiskey, and for children popcorn, lemonade and juice. And so they sit like that and everyone enjoys hockey during the game,” Ovechkin said in a podcast published on Amiran Sardarov’s YouTube channel.

Alexander Ovechkin has scored 65 effective actions in 79 games of the 2023/2024 NHL regular season – he has scored 31 goals and made 34 assists. In total, he has scored 853 goals and 697 assists during his NHL career.

Ovechkin’s contract with Washington lasts two more seasons. The 38-year-old Russian earns $9.5 million per year in the capital camp.
