The Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) has created a refereeing development department, the league’s press service reports.
The task of the new department will be to search for promising referees and train them for work in the KHL. The league also decided to stop inspecting referees during the season.
— KHL matches will be reviewed by the refereeing department and the video analysis center, which will issue a verdict on the referees’ decisions. But this will happen over time, because there is still a committee of referees and experts that any club can contact, as well as KFOR. We also have constant video analysis and newsletters for judges. And the referee development department will have mentor referees who will watch – live or on video – every MHL match, pay attention to the work of the referees and supervise the guys who are in our professional ranking, bringing them from the very beginning to the highest levels. In addition, mentor judges will monitor promising referees, starting with children’s competitions throughout the country. “This is a new story that we have entered – there is a certain stage of development that we need to go through, we cannot stand still, we need to develop and move forward,” KHL chief referee Alexey Anisimov said.
The new season of the FONBET KHL Championship starts on September 3. In the first match of the new KHL season, Spartak will host CSKA on September 5.
