Former Barys head coach Vyacheslav Butsayev explained how the team is affected by the rapid change of head coach.
On Thursday, Barys announced that Galym Mambetaliev had become the team’s new head coach. In this position he replaced Butsaev, who led the Astana team on September 25.
— When you joined the team, what task was given to you?
— There were a lot of problems, so we had to solve a lot of problems and review. It is a sport, it is driven by reasonable and objective competition. Here it was necessary to create a team that would not just go on the ice, but would be responsible for the result. In my opinion, over the last one and a half seasons in Barys, this is the sixth head coach, which does not have a very good effect on the team.
That is, there were a lot of questions about changing the composition of the team and reaching a different level in physical training. Additionally, some players, in my presence, played between one and three games while on the injured list. All of this had to be leveled and moved upwards. Naturally, like any other club, Barys set itself the goal of qualifying for the playoffs.
— You pointed out that there has been a significant turnover of coaches on the team in recent years. Did you think about this when you accepted the offer?
– Naturally, I flew to the negotiations and spoke. This decision was not taken spontaneously. If I had felt something was wrong here, I would not have accepted this offer. Again, I liked this approach, and we understood each other, our opinions coincided on the areas in which we should improve the quality of the game and competition,” Butsayev was quoted as saying by “Championship”.
Barys scored 7 points in 17 matches and ranks last in the KHL Eastern Conference standings.
