Russian Hockey Federation (FHR) released a statement after the report Continental Hockey League (KHL) on the creation of a working group on the relaunch of the Players’ Lounge.
On Tuesday, the KHL announced the creation of a working group to revive the Players Fair, a system for distributing the rights of talented juniors between clubs, analogous to the NHL draft.
— The Continental Hockey League has issued a press release on the creation of a working group to revive the Fair Procedure – a system for distributing the rights of talented juniors among the league’s clubs.
Previous experience with the KHL Junior Draft/Fair shows that this procedure copies the North American Draft, which has existed for over 60 years in the sports system of the United States and Canada. Hockey schools in these countries are private companies whose income depends on parents funding their children’s education. The vast majority of Russian schools operate on regional and municipal budgets and sponsor funds. The Russian economy of training a professional hockey player is fundamentally different from that of North America and, therefore, the recruitment system for the distribution of young players does not work in the conditions of domestic hockey, since the he arrival of a young athlete on a professional contract is carried out at the expense of a school or a hockey club.
The selection of a talented player by a hockey club against his will may contribute to his departure to foreign leagues, which goes against Russian President VV Putin’s position on combating the exodus of young players .
Thus, the Russian Hockey Federation believes that the fair procedure proposed by the KHL – a system of distribution of the rights of talented juniors between the league’s clubs – destroys the established system of national hockey, the FHR said in a statement published on the organization’s website.
