The Scandinavian country decided to ignore the players who bought big money.

Sweden will not be called to the national team of hockey players who play in the Russian KHL. This was announced by the head of the Swedish Hockey Association, Anders Larsson.

According to him, the players who choose money and move to the Continental Hockey League do not correspond to the values of Swedish hockey.

“In connection with the World Cup this spring, this topic is very relevant. We told the federation that we will calmly develop our policy on this issue before the start of the season.

The decision will be made before the coaches select their squads. Given the current situation, we consider it important to define the values of Swedish ice hockey and its position.

Therefore, hockey players from the KHL will not be considered for a call to the national team. Yes, a decision is pending until further notice.

No one in the world can predict how the situation will develop, so we will monitor it closely. Let’s see when we can make another decision,” Larsson was quoted as saying by Expressen.

It will be remembered that immediately after the mass invasion of the Kremlin troops in Ukraine, the Finnish Jokerit and the Latvian Dynamo left the KHL.

In addition, the IIHF imposed sanctions against the aggressor nation. The Russian national team and clubs from this country are excluded from all international tournaments. Also, the Russians were denied the right to hold international competitions.
