“Players located in Russia do not violate international agreements or our laws.” Slovak national team will continue to call KHL hockey players

The executive committee of the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation has decided that players currently playing in clubs continental hockey league (KHL), may be invited to National team .

– We will invite players to the national team based on their current form, not the league they play in.

The Executive Committee and the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation will always respect the international agreements and the current legislation of the country. We believe that the players who are currently in Russia are not violating any international agreements or our laws. We will rely on the Olympic Charter, according to which sport must be a tool of unification, the federation said in a press release.

Currently, seven Slovak hockey players play in the KHL: goalkeeper Patrick Rybar (Spartak, Moscow) and Adam Guska (“Torpedo”), defenders Michal Tchaikovsky (“Siberia”, Novosibirsk) and Christian Yaroch (Avangard, Omsk), forwards Michal Krysztof (“Admiral”, Vladivostok), Adam Lischka (Severstal, Cherepovets) and Samuel Buchek (“Neftekhimik”, Nizhnekamsk).

Previously, the Saeima of Latvia had banned athletes from their country by law from participating in tournaments in Russia and Belarus.
