Canada has urged its hockey players to leave Russia and Belarus

The country’s leadership does not want Canadian athletes to play for teams from aggressor countries.

In Canada, they called on their hockey players to leave the Russian and Belarusian clubs as soon as possible. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs appealed to athletes still playing in the Continental Hockey League.

“President Putin’s war on Ukraine is a war against freedom, democracy and the rights of Ukrainians and all people to determine their future. We Canadians value these values. The athletes who decide to play and cooperate with Russia and Belarus must publicly explain their decisions,” Canadian Foreign Minister Adrian Blanchard was quoted as saying by sportsnet.ca.

It should be noted that 48 Canadian players have been announced to KHL clubs for this season. 44 of them play in Russian and Belarusian teams, and four more in Kazakh.

At the same time, in March, Canada recommended its citizens to avoid trips to Russia and Belarus and, if possible, leave these countries.

We remind you, earlier it became known that hockey players from the Russian KHL will no longer be called up to the Swedish national team.
