Despite a generally good week, our country dropped to 16th place
On October 11-13, matches of the fourth round of the group stage of European competitions were played. Another European mid-week has become one rather good one for Ukraine. Three of our representatives have earned three points. Shakhtar drew with Real Madrid in the Champions League, Dnipro-1 defeated Vaduz in the Conference League in a nervous and tense match. Only Dynamo, which again lost to Rennes in the Europa League, was left without points.
As a result, the country’s piggy bank was replenished by 0.6 points (we divide the three points earned this week by five clubs that started from Ukraine in Europe).
In total, after four rounds of the group stage of European competitions, Ukraine has 3.7 points. Ukraine received 0.8 points for getting Shakhtar into the group stage of the Champions League (4 bonus points divided by the same five clubs), 0.8 points for the Pitmen’s results: a win against Leipzig, draws with Celtic and Real Madrid. Dynamo has 3.5 points or 0.7 points in eight games played (three wins and a draw). Dnipro earned 5 points or 1 point for Ukraine – two wins and a draw. Zarya and Vorskla, who stopped their performances, brought 0.2 points each.
But even a European Cup week, not bad by today’s standards, did not allow Ukraine not only to improve its position in the UEFA rankings, but also to keep the 15th line. Everything, as we expected before, is due to the breakthrough of Turkey, which broke into the TOP-15, displacing our country to the 16th position. At the same time, Turkey has four clubs in the fight. At the same time, our gap from Denmark, which also retained three teams in European competition, is less than one point.
True, we are unlikely to fall below the 17th position. We are ahead of Croatia by more than two points, Greece, which closes the top twenty in the ranking, is failing this Euroseason, and it has only one club left. And our separation from Russia is only growing.
