Norwegian skiers have backed the Swedes’ decision to boycott the 2023 World Cup if the Russians are admitted

norwegian skiers Stencet by Ane Applequist Anna Swensen and Ragnhild Haga supported Swedish national team skiers Maya Dahlquist and Lynn Swan in their intention to boycott the 2023 World Cup if the Russians are allowed to compete. The athletes spoke about it on the NRK television channel.

– I support their desire to express their own position, but for us, what is happening seems surreal. It was strange for me to sit side by side with Stepanova and then see all this. Of course we want to compete with the strongest, but not at any cost,” said Haga.

– I hope the FIS will decide not to allow them. It will not be very relevant to go to the start with them, – Swensen agreed with his colleague.

“We don’t want athletes to be allowed to start, although I have nothing against them personally,” Stenseth added.

At the end of February, the executive committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that federations ban Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in competitions because of the situation in Ukraine.

Earlier, Russian Ski Racing Federation President Elena Vyalbe told that the decision on admitting Russians to international competitions will be taken by FIS in October.
