President of Russia Vladimir Poutine expressed condolences over the death of the head of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) Alexandra Gorshkova .
Gorshkov died at the age of 77, we learned on Thursday, November 17.
– Alexander Georgievich Gorshkov, an outstanding athlete, a talented person with boundless passion for what he loves, has died. Her name is associated with bright and unforgettable pages from the victorious annals of the National School of Figure Skating, its triumphs and achievements, the very first Olympic gold medal in ice dancing. And of course, as co-founder and board member of the Talent and Success Education Foundation, Alexander Georgievich has done a lot to support young talent and their professional development.
The bright memory of Alexander Gorshkov, the long-time leader of Russian figure skating and a truly world-class sports figure, will forever remain in the hearts of relatives, friends, colleagues and all figure skating fans, – Putin’s statement on the Kremlin website says .
Gorshkov won Olympic gold in ice dancing in tandem with Lyudmila Pakhomova, won the world and European championships six times. He has been leading the FFKKR since 2010.
