Double Olympic medalist in swimming Kliment Kolesnikov even exceeded expectations in seconds for the world record, his coach Dmitry Lazarev told .
Kolesnikov broke the world record in the 50m backstroke at the Russian Short Course Championships, which are held as part of the second stage of the Friendship Games in Kazan. He clocked 22.11 seconds, beating Frenchman Florent Manaud, who swam a 25-meter pool in 22.22 seconds in 2014.
– You removed Clement from the rabbit today, obviously, you were about to compete for the record.
– If there was more time, the two would sail. Pretty much what we expected, more or less.
Were there any motivation issues?
We do our job and we have to do it well. We are always motivated.
– Mainly for records?
– And it is already as God wants it.
– How did you check the time of the summer season?
– He rested well, went to the Kabardinka training camp, we swam in Moscow, then we were on Krugly. We swam on short water, worked on the starts, the turns.
– What seconds did you focus on?
“Let’s just say Clement even exceeded my expectations a bit,” Lazarev said.
