Kondratyuk: “It seemed there would be no excitement after the European Championships and the Olympics, but yesterday there was a stir”

Figure skater Mark Kondratyuk after the short program of the Russian Grand Prix final, he said he was worried ahead of the performance in St. Petersburg.

Kondratyuk became the best in the short program with 102.86 points. The skater has missed several previous starts due to a back injury.

– Nice to be back. I wish tomorrow was the same. Does the form allow it? Hope never dies. Everything’s good. What happens tomorrow is up to me. You hardly jumped during the warm-up? It’s my style, always. It’s not because of an injury. I’m building up strength for a moron.

Did you worry before coming back? During the time I wasn’t speaking, I wasn’t worrying and thinking. Yesterday, the bugger showed up. It seemed that after the European Championship and the Olympics it would not be exciting. But now I know that if you don’t play for a long time, the excitement comes back.

We arrived in St. Petersburg a little earlier than usual. Three days of ice skating, training. There was an overall goal – to feel the competitive atmosphere. There were five of us riding – half of the Grand Prix final. It’s not just fighting, it’s a friendly atmosphere where everyone supports each other, – the correspondent reports Kondratyuk’s words.
