The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided to boycott tournaments with the participation of Russians

Ukrainians will take part in those competitions where there will be no Russian and Belarusian athletes

Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided to boycott the qualifying tournaments on Oolympic games-2024 in Paris, where Russian and Belarusian athletes will be allowed. This was stated by the Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers Oleg Nemchaninov on the air of the telethon “United News”.

“At the meeting of the Government, a protocol decision was made on the proposal of Gutzeit’s colleague that we participate in the qualifying competitions [на Олимпиаду] only where there are no Russians. Accordingly, participation outside these criteria may be grounds for depriving federations of the status of a national one,” the minister said.

“What should the athletes themselves do? You know, I won’t wish it to anyone… Yesterday I was at the next funeral of my good friend, who gave more than 20 years to track and field athletics, and died in the Kharkiv direction. And he left three children. He volunteered for the second war. And he did not serve in the kitchen, so to speak. That is, he was in combat units.

“So I want to tell our fellow athletes who are worried that due to the measures of the IOC and the admission of Russians or Belarusians to competitions, and, accordingly, Ukrainians will not be able to take part, that their career will break or something else. But your life and your children will remain.

Earlier, the IOC Executive Board recommended the return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions in a neutral status. At the same time, teams from Russia and Belarus, as well as athletes who support the war or have a contract with the armies of the Russian Federation or the Republic of Belarus, are not allowed to participate in the tournaments.

The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine sent letters to the Olympic committees of other countries and international federations regarding the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian athletes from international competitions.

Minister of Sports and Tourism of Poland Kamil Bortnichuk believes that the issue of the boycott of the Olympics in Paris should always be relevant in the dialogue with the IOC. According to him, a boycott will not be needed, as the IOC is afraid of such a development of events.

Also, a possible boycott of the 2024 Olympics was commented on by the Ukrainian athlete Yaroslav Maguchy. According to her, boycotting the Olympics is a very weak position.
