The British boxer made a successful comeback after two defeats from Oleksandr Usyk.
On Saturday, April 1, at the O2 Arena in London (England), a heavyweight bout took place between local ex-world champion Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) and American Jermaine Franklin (21-1, 14 KOs).
From the first minutes of the fight, the British boxer behaved cautiously: he connected the jab, but with less speed. The American tried to counter-attack to catch Anthony by surprise – it worked for a while.
Joshua became more dominant every minute, which made him feel comfortable in the ring. Jermain will not give up, showing that he is ready to go all the way. The American, who conceded more often, tried to go to the clinch, which affected the spectacle of the fight.
In the middle of the match, the American surprised his opponent several times, losing his grip a bit. At some point, Franklin successfully found a gap in the British defense, which then tried to slow the pace of the battle.
The final stage was for Joshua, who kept his distance, acting cautiously. Franklin wasn’t very confident on his feet, but he was still standing.
After the final gong, the judges unanimously gave the victory to Joshua: 117-111, 118-111 and 117-111.
It is noteworthy that after the gong between the teams of boxers, a fight almost started – they managed to stop.
