Athletes from Russia and Belarus will be admitted to the 2023 Taekwondo World Cup in a neutral status

The championship will be held in May in Baku

Advice World Taekwondo Federation (World Taekwondo) made a decision allow Russians and Belarusians to compete in a neutral status.

“The Council reaffirmed its calls for peace and solidarity with the Olympic community in Ukraine. World Taekwondo will continue to support Ukrainian athletes in ensuring their participation in taekwondo competitions.”

“After discussion, the Council decided to allow the participation of individual neutral athletes and support personnel with Russian and Belarusian passports in the World Taekwondo Championships, starting with the World Championships in Baku 2023 at the end of May.”

“The Council also approved the establishment of a Review Committee and Review Process to ensure the strict neutrality of individual Athletes and Support Personnel who will compete.”

Earlier, the IOC Executive Board recommended the return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions in a neutral status. At the same time, teams from Russia and Belarus, as well as athletes who support the war or have a contract with the armies of the Russian Federation or the Republic of Belarus, are not allowed to participate in the tournaments.

Recall that in March 2022, the World Taekwondo Federation banned Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international competitions.
