The Ministry of Youth and Sports will deprive sports federations of the status of “national” in case of participation in tournaments with Russians

A number of sanctions against athletes are also being considered.

Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine published a statement announcing the development of a project to deprive sports federations of the status of “national”.

In addition, the Ministry of Youth and Sports announced joint work with the Security Service of Ukraine on the application of special sanctions to federations and athletes.

“The draft resolution provides for the possibility of depriving the All-Ukrainian sports federation of the status of a national one in case of participation of athletes who are members of the relevant sports federations in international sports competitions in which athletes from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus take part.”

“The Ministry of Youth is also working on the issue of supporting national sports federations, in respect of which the international federation may apply penalties for non-participation in international competitions.”

“The Ministry of Youth and Sports, together with the Security Service of Ukraine, is working on the issue of applying personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) to sports federations and its members for their actions that create real and / or potential threats to the interests of society and the state.”

The IOC recommended the return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions in a neutral status. At the same time, teams from Russia and Belarus, as well as athletes who support the war or have a contract with the armies of the Russian Federation or the Republic of Belarus, are not allowed to participate in the tournaments.

At the same time, the IOC Executive Committee did not consider the issue of admitting Russians and Belarusians to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.

The IOC believes that a complete ban on the performance of Russian and Belarusian athletes is discrimination and is contrary to the Olympic Charter. The organizers of the 2024 Olympics in Paris said they would adhere to the IOC decision to allow Russians and Belarusians to compete under a neutral flag.

The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine sent letters to the Olympic committees of other countries and international federations regarding the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian athletes from international competitions.
