Handball coach Boris Akbashev died at the age of 89, reports the press service of the Russian Handball Federation.
It is reported that Akbashev died on April 19 in Reykjavik.
Under Akbashev’s leadership, Kuntsevo became the USSR champion three times (1966, 1967, 1969) and seven more times the team was among the winners of the national championship.

A legendary specialist has left us: unique, caring, extraordinary, brilliant and respected by many generations of athletes and coaches from different countries. We will always remember you, Boris Zalmanovich.
In 1980, Akbashev, heading the sports committee, went to Iceland, where he worked as the head coach of Valiur for two seasons. In 1989, the coach returned to this country. He coached Breidablik, again Valur, IBV, Haukum and Fjolnir, won the championship and the Icelandic Cup. Akbashev spent the 1994/95 season as head coach of Hapoel, with whom he became the champion of Israel.
