Polissya: Sports director Metallurg Metreveli’s statements mislead fans

Zhytomyr club responded to accusations that the referees allegedly help Polesie

Polissya commented on the words of the sports director of Metallurg Mikhail Metreveliwhich after a head-to-head match of the teams in 5th round of the second stage of the First League (1:0) accused the referees of erroneously canceling the goal of the Zaporozhye team.

“On May 7 and 8, the sports director of FC Metallurg Mikhail Metreveli made a number of public statements in which he directly or indirectly calls the victory of FC Polesie in the 5th round of the championship race in the First League unfair. In turn, FC Polesie considers it necessary to respond to the manipulative statements of the representative of FC Metalurh.”

“1) Mikhail Metreveli, in his accusations, cites as evidence a video of an episode of a potential offside from an angle that does not allow making an unambiguous conclusion regarding the offside. Drawing offside lines from this angle is incorrect.”

“2) FC Metalurh, as the host of the fight, had the opportunity to take care of the appropriate broadcast and provide positions for “offside cameras” and high-quality replays of the episodes, but this was not done.”

“3) FC Metallurg, as the host of the match, had the opportunity to take care of the presence of the VAR system at their home matches, but this was also not done.”

“We believe that the statements of the sports director of FC Metallurg Mikhail Metreveli are incorrect, or mislead the fans. The principled position of FC Polissya is always to defend fair refereeing for all participants of the championship.”

“In confirmation of the consistency in relation to FC Polesie to this position: 1) FC Polesie orders the VAR system for each of its home matches at its own expense. 2) FC Polissya, seeking equal conditions for itself and for its rivals, by agreement of the parties, is ready at its own expense to provide the VAR system not only at its home matches, but also at away matches. 3) FC Polissya for each of its home matches at its own expense provides high-quality broadcasting with long-focus lenses precisely in order to avoid controversial interpretation of any refereeing decisions.”

The victory over Metallurg allowed Polesie to stay in first place in the standings. Yuri Kalitvintsev’s team is one point ahead of Obolon. Metallurgist occupies the 5th position.

In the next match on May 14, Polissya will play with Flint, and Metallurg – with Karpaty.
