Russian figure skater Daniel Gorelkin ice dancing with Sophie Leontieva told “” that he has loved 80s music since childhood.
According to a document published on the website of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR), it appears that the International Skating Union (ISU) has chosen “Music of the 80s” as the rhythm dance theme for the upcoming season. The pattern for juniors is a foxtrot rocker, for adults a pattern-like step sequence (silver samba).
– The two programs for the next season have already been staged. Is it difficult to work the theme of the 80s in rhythmic dance?
— When we learned that there would be an 80s theme, at first we didn’t understand at all what it would look like. Then we gradually started to listen to music, to capture the atmosphere. You just need to get high to get pumped. I’m a big fan of 80s music. It’s my parents’ childhood. I myself heard this music as a child, I saw my parents dancing. I remember those moves,” Gorelkin said.
– If you do something fake to this music, you won’t be able to convey the mood to the judges and audience. You have to dance with the heart. The way you feel,” Leontieva said.
At the junior level, the duo of Leontieva and Gorelkin in 2023 became the winner of the final of the Federation Cup and the silver medalist of the Russian Junior Championship, winner of two stages of the Junior Grand Prix of Russia.
Next season, the students of Alexander Svinin and Irina Zhuk enter the adult level.
