The All-Russian Volleyball Federation expressed its condolences on the passing of Olympic champion Zaitsev

The All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VVF) expressed its condolences on the website following the death of Olympic champion Vyacheslav Zaitsev, whose death became known on Monday.

Olympic volleyball champion of the USSR national team Vyacheslav Zaitsev died at the age of 71, his son Ivan posted a farewell message with photos on Monday on a social network.

– In addition to colossal sports achievements, I must say that Vyacheslav Alekseevich was an incredibly kind, open and sympathetic person with a huge heart.

The All-Russian Volleyball Federation expresses its condolences to the family and friends of Vyacheslav Alekseevich, as well as to his friends and students. For the entire volleyball community, this is a huge and irreparable loss.

Vyacheslav Zaitsev is the champion of the 1980 Moscow Olympics, the silver medalist of the 1976 Games in Montreal and the 1988 Games in Seoul. Zaitsev has also won the World Championship twice and the World Cup twice. Seven times the volleyball player became European champion. At club level, Zaitsev played for Avtomobilist Leningrad, Italy’s Spoleto, Agrigento, Citta di Castello and Switzerland’s Lugano.

On October 18, 2013, the legendary Soviet athlete was inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame as one of the best players of the 20th century.
