Pole vaulter Morgunov – about winning the Russian Cup: “I managed to reach the Olympic standard, but I’m not satisfied with the jumping technique”

European Pole Vault Silver Medalist Timur Morgunov said he was not satisfied with the jumping technique at the Russian Cup, despite the fact that he managed to meet the Olympic standard.

On Saturday, Morgunov won the Russian Cup pole vault tournament in Zhukovsky with a score of 5.82 meters. The athlete tried unsuccessfully three times to gain a height of 5.93 m. Second place was taken by Matvey Volkov (5.60), third – Alexander Solovyov (5.50).

– Today, I didn’t think of anything, I just thought of good technical jumps, which didn’t work. On the other hand, I managed to jump high and meet the Olympic standard. Although I am not satisfied with the technique of the jump. There is work to be done, but overall I’m happy.

– What went wrong in the last attempts? Is it technology or psychology?

– I think all together. I prepared to do it technically correctly, ran, tried harder, but missed at the end of the run before the jump. I couldn’t get out the pole vault. Fatigue set in. You need to gain strength and experience, then everything will be fine. I think it will be better for the Russian Championship. The results are growing, but this is not yet what we want, ”reports the correspondent of in the words of Morgunov.
