Croatian retains Usyk’s mandatory IBF title status
Croatian heavyweight Filip Hrgovic (16-0, 13 KOs) defeated the Australian Demsey Mckina (22-1, 14 KOs) as part of a boxing evening in London at the O2 Arena.
Hrgovic held the initiative in the duel, but won the victory only at the end of the battle. In the 12th round, the Croatian succeeded with a powerful right hook, followed by a series of blows. The referee first opened the count after McKean was knocked out and then stopped the fight.
At stake in the Hrgovic-McKean bout was mandatory challenger status for the IBF heavyweight title, which the Croat won last August by defeating Zhang Zhilei. Recall that the IBF heavyweight champion is Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk.
Hrgovic remains undefeated in the ring with his 16th career win. Mackin suffered the first defeat.
The main event of the boxing evening in London will be the fight between Anthony Joshua and Robert Helenius. Finn was urgently invited to the fight instead of Dillian Whyte, who failed the doping test.
